We learned early last week that our club member, and longtime friend to many, had succumbed to the cancer he had been fighting for some 24 years.

Alex had fought the disease privately and had in fact specified that his cremation and farewell were to be a private affair.

Alex might not have been an active PIARC member for some years but still holds a fond spot in the hearts of many PIARC members from the 1970s as the club did with him.

He was an avid Rally and Motor Khana competitor in his rapid HD Holden for many years and dabbled in racing Sports Sedans, sharing in Kage’s A30 Holden throughout the early 70s with their Automation Racing Team.

He was a keen member of the PIARC House Committee and rose to the position of PIARC’s 3rd Club Captain in 1973 and maintained that role until 1976.

During those years Alex was an integral part of the Communications Team at Phillip Island Race Circuit, using his skills obtained as a Specialist Telephone Technician to favourable effect.

Condolences to his wife Sue, his girls, and his many friends.
