We sadly learned last week that former PIARC club member and 1988 PIARC John Lanyon Competitor of the Year Terri Sawyer, passed away after a battle with cancer.

She was only 57 years of age.

Terri was a star who graduated from Karts to Cars, and at 19 years of age, shone briefly for a couple of years on the Thunderdome at Calder Park, winning both the first ever AUSCAR race and in following years NASCAR Races in quick succession. After a couple drives in Touring cars with other PIARC members John Faulkner and Murray Carter, she retired from motorsport for a life of privacy on the Mornington Peninsular in the 1990s.

Terri was a humble and deserving achiever, the first ever AUSCAR Winner, the first female NASCAR winner worldwide and the first of only two female winners of the PIARC John Lanyon Competitor of the Year.

Condolences to Terri’s family and friends.
